About Mark...... a bit of context on the chief builder and epoxy globber

Here's a small bit of my history .....and current day.

In 1960, Hurricane Donna blasted up the East Coast shreading harbors & small
craft. Amongst the wreckage was a Woodpussy that managed it's way adrift
into the Amityville river. (Amityville, L.I. N.Y where I was raised) The
boat "sat" in certain "rescue" by the Ocean Avenue Boat Yard being lashed to
a beach where it endured up-tide swampings & low-tide "Ahhhs!"

Daily, my school bicycle route took me up & down Riverside Avenue where I
passed in sorrow of the old "fat-cat" enduring it's daily tide beatings
without regard to owner. I finally, in June of 1962 approached the Ocean
Ave. Boat Yard & inquired about the boat. The answer was "You want It?
(heh-heh stupid kid)  Take it away!

Let's just say the boat was meticulously restored and sailed on the Great
South Bay by a 13 year old for one racing season with the Narrasketuck Yacht
Club in the Handicap division to no significant point value. I sold the boat
for a remarkable "profit" (age 15 perspective) to a couple in Western L.I.,
Montauk ....I think.)

The boat was engraved "67" in the transom. Perhaps # 67, perhaps not. I put
 the number on the sail.

Woodpussys were fun and probably should be if you can find a "real woodie".
How can a 'glass Woodpussy be ...... uhhh .... excuse me..... Wood?
Personally, I found my "real roots" in much faster vintage sail boats such
as Narrasketucks, Lightnings & Thistles. My current restored interest, the
 505. It's a childhood thing that started when these 280 lb. fully-rigged-sail-laden-screaming-reach WOOD sixteen footers appeared on the scene.

I recently acquired what is believed to be the last of two of the "once
was" -166 boats that were U.S. delivered, Fairey Marine (all hot molded
wood) built in 1956 that I am restoring. For details:

My current passion is building the most beautiful, functional and safe WoodPussys of the 21st Century while assisting the United States Woodpussy Class Association (USWPCA) in its Renaissance of the WoodPussy. I'll accomplish this as while preserving the "classic" look and design of this Phil Rhodes Catboat.
