Angliss WoodPussy
The Angliss WoodPussy is sure to draw
attention
of sailing fans and side-line
observers.
The Angliss WoodPussy is an entirely
wood composite construction.
The boat is
hand-crafted using superior wood
(mahogany, cedar, oak) and is protected
with a proprietary clear protective epoxy
finish.
WoodPussy Features
Cockpit Small
enough for one and big enough for four. It’s
perfect for a
group
outing, or single handed sailing. The WoodPussy catboat is
suitable
for the energetic racer as well as the novice sailor.
Hull
Every
Angliss Boats premium model WoodPussy one-design
sailboat
is hand
crafted utilizing carefully selected woods and 21st
century
high quality “super-materials.” The
hulls are “composite”
construction;
wood veneer bonded with fiberglass cloth and epoxy
resin
in layers to produce an extremely stiff
and strong structure.
In
accordance to class specifications, only wood and fiberglass are
utilized
to be completely class legal.
Finish
A
unique proprietary clear polyurethane resin developed
by Angliss
Boats
protects the hull. The remarkable ultraviolet ray protection
preserves
the underlying wood grain appearance without the need
for
arduous maintenance. Maintenance is equivalent ….or less than
that
of a fiberglass hull where a quick wash n’ rinse is sufficient. The
exterior
coating is very resilient and will remain so for years to
endure
temperature changes and small “bumps” or “incidents”.
Touch-up
is easy to restore a “boo-boo” for anyone with the
kit that
accompanies
each boat to maintain a crystal clear view of the wood.
After
all, a WoodPussy should be just that…a knock-out looks, wood
catboat.
Flotation Maximum
safety is built in to our 21st Century WoodPussy
design
due to our unique
capsize recovery system. This is a revolutionary
design
that has never before been seen in the WoodPussy Class.
The
balanced flotation tank placement
within the hull allows a
capsized/distressed
WoodPussy to float very high in the water on
its
side. The incorporation of wood spars is deliberate
not only for
great
looks, but also as a flotation feature. The spars naturally float
to
oppose the forces of a distressed boat that tends to capsize
“inverted” with
an aluminum mast. The floating mast keeps the
capsized
hull stable for the crew to attend to the easy rescue. Even
in
foul conditions the floating
boom keeps the main sail minimally
full
of water and the rig tangle-free. Righting the boat is simple:
grasp
the centerboard from a swimming position
and it the boat
pops
upright. The crew enters mid-ships at its lowest sheer-line
and
most “beamy” position
to rock the boat low to enter. With a few
inches
of water, the drain deck floor and slow speed suction bailer,
the hull virtually
sails dry in less than 5 or 10 minutes in as low 8 as
knots
of wind. This allows racers to stay in the race and parents to
not
worry should their children encounter a sudden squall or severe
wind
conditions in an Angliss WoodPussy.

Safety
In
addition to the protection inherent in the flotation system above,
this
little cat heads to the wind when you drop the tiller and the
main
sheet, thereby preventing most ”dunks.”
Spars Mast: WOOD
is back! Angliss Boats has re-engineered wood spars
for
the WP. We incorporate premium tight-long grained Sitka
Spruce
into a very high performance
racing mast equal or better
than
any aluminum mast available for the WP. When utilized with
the
Angliss Boats racing rigging for mast bend control,
our masts
will be winners.
This mast "twists-off" perfectly in
gusts and
responds uniformly
for aft mast bend with the Angliss Boats rig.
The
wood sail track has a unique interior coating using graphite to
make
sail hoisting go ZIP!! This is an all-wood mast with knockout
wood
looks coated in our proprietary final finish system for LONG
life.
With superior performance designed specifically for the WP, we
don't
think you can find
a better mast anywhere for your WP. You
can
order custom Angliss Boats masts for your older WP.
Boom:
Like the mast, it's premium-Sitka Spruce rigged with the
best
Harken, Ronstan and Holt-Allen hardware. This boom as the
mast
is built from top
quality ingredients and class legal. With a bit
of
leeward mid-bend, the foot of the sail contours smoothly with
great
strength to work with the split-tail
main sheet and the very
powerful
Angliss Boats vang.
Rig Angliss
Boats believes in a very simple, reliable yet VERY powerful
rig
for the racecourse. There is no time to be "messing" with a rig
regardless of casual
sailing or all-out racing. We have
straightforward "intuitive" rigging
that will meet any conditions
under
sail.
Main
Halyard: 2:1 adjustable for aft mast bend; an Angliss Boats
innovation.
Main
Sheet: Split-tail bridle. Simple, NO adjustments, self-centering
with
a very short sheet to minimize the "trip-factor" of the slack
sheet in the hull when on a beat.
Traveler. None. The split-bridle does it all and much better. Makes
for
a MUCH cleaner day sailor and racing boat.
Downhaul.
None. Fixed gooseneck for simplicity. The Cunningham
does the work.
Cunningham is a very simple 2:1 conveniently located for the
skipper on
the CB Cap
Vang is a minimum friction 16:1 powerhouse "cascade" that can
be
adjusted from either side of the boat coincident with the main sheet.
The continuous recalculation of the vang control line means you
never are
at the short or long end of the control line.
Outhaul: Powerful 4:1 to precision set from the convenience of
under the
boom.
Sail We
use North Sails exclusively given their long time experience
cutting
WoodPussy sails and very high quality. The Angliss boats rig
is
engineered to obtain maximum performance from the
North sail.
